Assam: 10 injured as tree falls on students in Bokakhat

Guwahati: At least 10 students were injured when a tree fell on the classroom of a school at Golaghat district of Assam on Monday.

The incident took place at Borpak Nagabali primary school in Bokakhat area of the district.

The injured students have been identified as Ankur Das, Bidur Das, Dimple Gogoi, Bikas Bora, Rakesh Das, Jyotisma Das, Maya Das, Bidisha Das, Manashjyoti Das, Namita Gogoi, Trishna Das.

According to reports, A man was cutting down a tree inside in his residential area which it crashed on the roof of the nearby school building, injuring the students inside.

The teacher said, “When I was busy teaching the students of Class 3 and 4, a tree fell inside the school building. Five students have sustained severe injuries. The owner of the house didn’t inform us that they would be cutting the tree.”

“Two classrooms have been damaged in the incident. The owner of the house had donated land to the school,” the teacher further informed.

Following the incident, education department officials, local police rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation

It may be mentioned that the students who were injured were immediately admitted to a hospital. Five of them were shifted to Golaghat Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital for better treatment.
