Assam Arunachal Firing: Arunachal Police Arrested Five Accused
Guwahati, 6 June: Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), G. P. Singh announced on Tuesday that five people had been arrested by Arunachal Pradesh police on suspicion of killing two Assam youths in the border district of Dhemaji.
He added that the five accused would be turned over to Assam police after following the proper protocol.
“Reference the firing incident at the Assam-Arunachal border in Dhemaji & Gogamukh PS case No. 63/23 u/s 147/148/302/326/307 IPC r/w 25 (1) (a)/27 (3) of Arms Act – Arunachal Police has arrested 5 accused persons.,” he wrote on Twitter.
Two people were killed and two others were injured in a firing incident that occurred earlier yesterday in the Panbari area in Dhemaji along the Assam-Arunachal border.
The attack was allegedly perpetuated by miscreants hailing from Arunachal Pradesh. The deceased were identified as Boga Chutia and Monitu Gogoi.
Meanwhile, Assam Government has announced ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the next kin of the victims killed in the Dhemaji firing incident, informed by education minister Ranoj Pegu on Tuesday.
He said that the kin of the deceased, Boga Chutia and Monitu Gogoi, will be given ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh while the injured, Jagat Gogoi and Puspa Gogoi, will be given Rs. 1 lakh each.
Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) also organised a rally in Dhemaji where they were spotted burning Pema Khandu’s effigy and yelling anti-Khandu protest signs.
Following a meeting between the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Lower Siang and Dhemaji districts Arunachal police had reaffirmed their resolve to work with other law enforcement agencies to look into the incident and take appropriate action against the offenders. A case was also registered under the Arms Act at the Gogamukh Police Station.
