Assam: Chaos on Brahmaputra as Passenger Boat Collides with Mechanized Vessel Near Dhubri
Guwahati: A dramatic collision between a passenger boat and a mechanized vessel on the Brahmaputra River near Dhubri caused panic and injuries on January 21.
The incident, which occurred around 9 am, involved a passenger boat traveling from Arimari Ghat to Denar Kuti and resulted in damage to several vehicles onboard, as well as injuries to multiple passengers.
Eyewitness accounts described a chaotic scene as the sudden impact forced passengers to leap into the river to avoid the wreckage.
The shallow water levels in the area played a crucial role in preventing severe injuries, allowing many to escape the ordeal with minimal harm.
The passenger boat was reportedly carrying around 120 people at the time of the accident, while the number of occupants on the mechanized vessel remains uncertain.
Local sources allege that the mechanized boat, operating from Arimari Parghat, lacked proper government authorization, raising serious questions about the regulation and safety of river transport in the region.
In addition to the injuries, several two-wheelers aboard the mechanized vessel were damaged, and parts of the vessel were seen sinking shortly after the collision.
While no fatalities were reported, the incident has intensified calls for stricter enforcement of boating regulations and improved safety protocols to prevent such accidents on the Brahmaputra River.
Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the collision and the unauthorized operations of the mechanized boat.
