Assam: Elderly Mother Arrested For Attacking Son, Wife With Dao In Cachar

Guwahati: Police in Assam’s Cachar district on Wednesday arrested the elderly woman who had been seen on video hitting her own son and daughter-in-law.

The 60-year-old woman was arrested by Cachar Police today for using a sharp object to harm her own son and daughter-in-law. The incident took place at Katigara in the state’s Cachar district and it came to fore yesterday.

The elderly woman, identified as Thambal Chana Singha, was arrested by Cachar Police today. The awful double murder in Guwahati, which has dominated headlines for the past few days, precedes the occurrence in Cachar.

Moreover, Cachar Police arrestedthe elderly woman’s youngest son, who was allegedly also implicated in the assault. Officials claim that the old woman’s youngest son identified as Debojit Singha is a jawan with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Meanwhile, Cachar Police also recovered the sharp weapon used in the attack, a ‘dao’.

It should be mentioned that yesterday there were reports of an old woman using a sharp object to attack her own son and daughter-in-law in Katigara in Assam’s Cachar district, leaving the latter in a pool of blood.

Initial reports state that the 60-year-old woman attacked both her son and her daughter-in-law during a violent outburst that is thought to have been sparked by a property dispute. The victim woman’s infant child also sustained injuries in the Cachar incident.

According to reports, the old mother wasn’t acting alone; her youngest son assisted her. The incident left the daughter-in-law with critical wounds. The elderly woman entered the victim’s chamber and repeatedly struck her with a “dao,” leaving her bleeding.

The elderly woman and her youngest son committed the crime and then escaped. The family members were taken to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment after being rescued by the Kalain Police in Cachar.
