Assam: Elderly Woman Beaten to Death in Suspected Witch-Hunt

Guwahati, 13th September: In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through Assam, an elderly woman was brutally beaten to death by unidentified miscreants on suspicion of practicing witchcraft. This distressing event unfolded in Chatabari Pt I Village, situated in the Goalpara district.

According to sources, the victim, identified as Praneswari Rabha (56), had gone to feed her cattle on Tuesday afternoon but tragically never returned home. A village-wide search effort ensued, culminating in the discovery of her lifeless body late at night in the cemetery. Her hands and legs were found bound with clothes, indicating a horrifying act of violence that led to her untimely death.

Initial investigations point towards a case of witch-hunting, as Praneswari was known to live peacefully in the village without any known feuds or disputes. Tragically, her brother had met a similar fate a few years ago under identical circumstances, allegedly for practicing witchcraft.

Goalpara police swiftly responded to the crime scene, recovering the victim’s body for post-mortem examination. An investigation into this chilling incident is now underway as authorities work to uncover the truth behind this disturbing act.
