Assam: Government to phase out single use plastic

Guwahati: Assam Government has introduced and endorsed an “Action Plan” for sustainable development, with the goal of eliminating “Single-Use Plastics.”

The Assam Cabinet on Thursday adopted a comprehensive action plan to eliminate single-use plastic, in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal.

The government will also conduct scientific trash disposal and develop development alternatives.

Plastic carry bags, plastic sticks in numerous goods, and plastic less than 100 microns will all be banned under the plan.

Earlier, the Assam government announced a new policy under which it will plant ten new trees for every one tree removed in non-forest regions for construction and infrastructure projects.
