Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet approved the much-debated speed restrictions for various types of roads and vehicles across the state on Thursday.
The speed limits have been created based on the different classes of vehicles on different types of roadways in a Cabinet-approved draught.
For Non-Transport Motor Vehicles, the speed limit in 4-lane roads has been set at 100 km/h; in other roads, it has been set at 70 km/h; and in municipal limits, it has been set at 60 km/h
For Motorcycles, the speed limit in 4-lane roads has been set at 60 km/h; in other roads, it has been set at 50 km/h; and in municipal limits, it has been set at 50 km/h;
The Cabinet declared that the speed restrictions would ‘steam-line traffic movement and reduce the danger of accidents.’
The Cabinet announced that the Draft Notification will be made available to the public for 15 days for comments and feedback before being finalised.
