Assam: Historic Victory for Indian Weightlifter at World Youth Championships

Northeast Desk, 26th May: In a momentous occasion for Indian weightlifting, Bedabrat Bharali has secured the prestigious gold medal at the World Youth Championships hosted in Lima, Peru. This achievement marks a significant milestone in India’s sporting journey.

Hailing from Assam, Bharali demonstrated exceptional prowess in the Men’s 73kg category, elevating himself to victory and etching his name in the annals of Indian sports history. His outstanding performance not only clinched India’s first-ever gold in the men’s division of the tournament but also showcased his extraordinary talent and unwavering dedication to the sport.

The news of Bharali’s triumph resonated across the nation, garnering praise and admiration from sports enthusiasts and dignitaries alike. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to the microblogging site X to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the young weightlifting prodigy, commending his remarkable achievement on the global stage.

With an impressive total lift of 296kg, comprising a snatch of 136kg and a clean and jerk of 160kg, Bharali emerged victorious, leaving his competitors trailing behind.
