Government Aims to Foster Peace Between Meitei and Kuki Communities in Manipur

Northeast Desk, 26th May: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that the government is actively addressing the trust deficit between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur, with the goal of establishing enduring peace in the region. Shah highlighted the importance of this initiative, emphasizing its prioritization following the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election.

Speaking in an interview with PTI, Shah recognized the ethnic nature of the conflicts between the Meitei and Kuki communities, underlining the inadequacy of resolving such issues through force. He stressed that the root cause lies in ethnic violence, which necessitates dialogue and reconciliation rather than coercion.

Efforts to bridge the trust deficit and facilitate communication between the Meitei and Kuki communities are viewed as essential steps toward fostering sustainable peace and harmony in Manipur.
