Assam: Nalbari District Authorities Implement Revised School Timings Amid Heatwave

Northeast Desk, 26th May: In response to the intensifying heatwave, the authorities in Nalbari District have announced adjusted school timings for all educational institutions, prioritizing the safety and well-being of students. Effective from May 27, 2024, until further notice, the revised timings aim to reduce students’ exposure to extreme heat during the peak hours of the day.

The newly established timings are as follows:

  • Lower Primary (L.P.) Schools: 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM
  • Upper Primary (U.P.) Schools: 7:30 AM to 12:00 Noon
  • High Schools/Higher Secondary Schools: 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM

This decision, reached after consultations with relevant officials, seeks to create a more comfortable learning environment for students amidst rising temperatures. Morning assemblies will now take place indoors to minimize direct exposure to heat, and schools are instructed to ensure the availability of ample drinking water.

A memo outlining these adjustments, issued by Ram, Additional District Commissioner of Nalbari, underscores the importance of safeguarding students amid the escalating heat levels in the district.

The announcement has been widely disseminated to key stakeholders in education and administration, including the Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, School Education Department, as well as directors of secondary and elementary education in Assam.

Furthermore, local authorities such as the Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), and Circle Officers across various regions of Nalbari District have been duly informed of the directive.
