Assam Rifles Seize Heroin Worth Over Rs 1.9 Crore in Mizoram
Northeast Desk, 16th September: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles personnel have seized 276 grams of heroin valued at over Rs 1.9 crore in two separate operations in Mizoram’s Champhai district, the paramilitary force announced on Monday.
The first operation took place in Melbuk village, where 129 grams of heroin, worth more than Rs 90 lakh, was confiscated. In a subsequent operation at Zokhawthar, along the Mizoram-Myanmar border, Assam Rifles seized 147 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth over Rs 1 crore.
Both operations were conducted on Sunday, marking a major success in the ongoing efforts to curb cross-border drug smuggling in the region.
This follows another major seizure on September 13, when Mizoram police arrested a 41-year-old Myanmar national and recovered 592 grams of heroin, valued at Rs 17 lakh, in Keifang, Saitual district.
Authorities continue to maintain heightened vigilance along the Mizoram-Myanmar border to tackle the persistent flow of illegal narcotics into India.
