Assam: Three arrested in connection with robbery
Guwahati: Guwahati Police arrested three persons in connection with a robbery in the city on Sunday.
The three arrestees have been identified as Sunil Kumar Rai of Noonmati, Rajkumar Rai of Zoo Road, and Animesh Nandi.
On Saturday, Sanjeev Garodia, a resident of Ulubari complaint about the matter, and following the complaint a CGPD team from Geetanagar Police Station initiated a search operation and arrested the two accused.
The Police recovered a total of Rs 28.50 lakhs and seized a Maruti Alto car bearing the registration number AS25CC0828 from their possession.
According to reports, the accused, Sunil Kumar Rai, along with Animesh Nandi, both employees of the complainant were tasked with collecting Rs 30 lakhs in cash from Borbari in the VIP Road area. After collecting the money, the two returned to their Nissan Terrano, which they had been using for commuting. They stopped at Narengi Tiniali at Forest Gate on their way back to get some medicine.
However, the accused driver, together with the cash and the automobile, vanished from the scene. All attempts to contact the driver’s phone were futile because it was shut off. Later, the complainant and Animesh Nandi went to the driver’s house to inquire and learned that the driver had stopped by short to give his wife 50,000 in cash and advise her to depart for her mother’s house.
The accused driver reportedly attempted to deceive the complainant by sending a message claiming that two people overpowered him and took the money. Out of panic, he said he abandoned the Nissan Terrano in front of Geetanagar PS.
The police followed the accused’s phone position and found Rai in Noonmati’s 6th bye lane. Rajkumar Rai, Rai’s other accomplice, was also apprehended on Zoo Road, along with one Alto Car.
Following an additional inquiry, the police entered the home of Jagabandhu Debnath, Rajkumar Rai’s father-in-law, in Nijarapar, Fatasil Ambari. From here, a bag containing 28 lakhs in cash was recovered.
