Assam: Tusker Mowed Down By Speeding Train In Jorhat

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a tusker was mowed by a speeding train in Jorhat district of Assam on Thursday morning.

The incident took place at Mariani of the district.

The incident was reported from Kamrup Express train when a herd of elephants were crossing the rail tracks.

Although the herd successfully crossed the tracks, one of them was unable to do so in time and was killed when it was hit by the train.

Trains were delayed for a short while after the incident. Authorities from the forest reached the scene and recovered the carcass.

One of the main issues in Assam is the direct or indirect confrontation between humans and elephants.
