‘Body takes more space in plane’: BJP MLA on student killed in Ukraine
Guwahati: As the family of Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagowda, the student who was killed in Ukraine, waits for his remains to be brought back to Karnataka, a BJP MLA has sparked a debate by saying that “a dead person takes up more space in a flight.”
Arvind Bellad, a BJP MLA from Karnataka’s Hubli-Dharwad constituency, remarked that instead of a coffin, the jet could hold almost eight to ten people.
He was replying to queries about whether or not Naveen’s remains would be returned to his hometown of Haveri.
While addressing to media, Bellad said, “The government is making efforts to recover Naveen’s mortal remains. Everyone is aware that Ukraine is a combat zone. Efforts are being made to recover the corpse, and if possible, it will be returned.”
“While bringing back the living is difficult, bringing back the dead has become even more difficult because a dead person takes up more space on the trip. Instead of a dead body, which would take up more space, eight to ten people may be housed “said the BJP leader.
He further added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing everything he can to bring Naveen’s body back.
It needs to be mentioned that Naveen, a 21-year-old medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University was murdered in Russian shelling on a government building while waiting in line outside a grocery store.
As per reports, he had been staying in a bunker with other students and had gone out to get some food before riding a train across the border on March 2.
