Cattle Preservation Bill threat to NE States: Nagaland Congress
Dimapur: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) reacting to the new Cattle Preservation Bill that has been placed at the Assam Legislative Assembly claimed that the bill is a threat to the inherent and food habits of the North East region.
NPCC president K Therie stated that the bill is a threat to peaceful coexistence in the region and claimed that caution should be taken before passing the Bill.
He also added that the bill if imposed forcefully might cause harm to the inherent trade and food habits of the region.
Therie also said that cattle trade in the region has existed since the time that is immemorial to the hill states and it extends to Bangladesh and Myanmar.
“Any restriction through the bill will be detrimental to the inherent trade and deprive people of their food habits,” the NPCC said.
Therie added, “It is a threat to peaceful co-existence.”
The NPCC further alleged that the bill is an imitation of the BJP in “mainland states” which over the days have passed several cow protection bills.
The NPCC further added, “We cannot simply change our culture to suit the mainland as we need to be tolerant with the surrounding environment.”
The NPCC also claimed that Assam has the right to legislate its own laws but since India is a Union of States, “Assam is should not forget that we are economically interdependent.”
