Congress Leaders Criticize PM Modi’s Response to Manipur Conflict

Guwahati, 11th June: Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and Jairam Ramesh have criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to the ongoing conflict in Manipur, following remarks by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat urging resolution of the issue as a priority.

At a recent Sangh event in Nagpur, Bhagwat emphasized the urgency of addressing the Manipur conflict, which has seen a resurgence of violence after a decade of relative peace. Reacting to Bhagwat’s remarks, Gogoi expressed skepticism about PM Modi’s willingness to prioritize the issue, suggesting that Modi may avoid Manipur and misuse law enforcement agencies instead.

Jairam Ramesh echoed similar sentiments, urging Bhagwat to influence the former RSS office-bearer, presumably referring to PM Modi, to take action in Manipur.

The Manipur conflict, which erupted during a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ last year, has claimed over 200 lives in clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities. Despite calls from opposition parties, including the INDIA bloc, PM Modi remained silent until a video depicting two women being paraded naked by a mob circulated on social media, prompting him to express his distress and condemn the incident.
