Guwahati: An investigation has been requested by the Indian Election Commission into a case of political violence that occurred in the Majlishpur Assembly district of West Tripura on January 18 2023.
Three FIRs were filed with the police after the incident and eight suspects were arrested.
According to reports, the incident took place on Wednesday, some hours after the Tripura assembly election schedule was made public.
The Commission has requested a report on the incident from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office by January 20 at 3 p.m.
Reportedly, 15 Congress leaders and employees suffered injuries as a result of a group of men allegedly attacking them during a bike demonstration at four different places in the Jirania subdivision. The BJP was allegedly funding the individuals, according to the Congress.
The 60-member legislature will be chosen through elections on February 16 with results announced on March 2.
