Former Bajali District SP and DSP to Appear in Court for Corruption Case

Guwahati, 13th September: In a significant development related to a corruption case in Assam, former Bajali district Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddhartha Buragohain and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Puskal Gogoi are set to appear before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) court. This appearance follows their earlier remand in police custody.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police, responsible for investigating the case, will present both officials in court as their police custody period is set to expire. The CID is expected to request an extension to continue their interrogation regarding the corruption case.

Furthermore, the investigation has expanded its reach to Barpeta district in Assam. A CID team arrived in Howly town, Barpeta, to conduct operations related to the Bajali corruption case. The team conducted searches at the residence of Sahidul Islam, one of the accused, and also at a warehouse associated with him.

Earlier this month, on September 7, five individuals, including middleman Sahidul Islam, were presented before the CJM court in connection with the Bajali corruption case. The CID sought their custody for further interrogation. The accused included SI Debajit Giri, Deepjoy Roy (driver to the SP), Injamamul Hassan (PSO to Additional SP), part-time driver Nabir Ahmed, and Sahidul Islam.

The case initially came to light on September 1 when the CID detained seven people, including five police officers and two drivers from the Bajali police station, on allegations of accepting bribes. Investigations into the matter continue to unfold.
