Himanta Biswa Sarma Hails PMAY-U as Catalyst for India’s Holistic Development
Guwahati, 21st December: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP government for its impactful housing scheme, emphasizing that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) transcends mere housing provision, serving as a cornerstone for India’s comprehensive progress.
In a statement shared on X platform, CM Sarma underscored the pivotal role of PMAY-U in India’s urban metamorphosis. With an impressive tally of over 1.12 crore affordable housing units sanctioned nationwide, the scheme has empowered millions, alleviating the housing burden with a substantial interest subsidy cap of Rs. 2.67 lakh. Noteworthy is its inclusive approach, encompassing diverse socio-economic segments such as EWS, LIG, MIG, women, and minorities, thereby fostering equitable growth.
Launched on 25th June 2015 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), PMAY-U stands as the Indian Government’s flagship initiative. Aimed at addressing the urban housing scarcity among EWS, LIG, MIG, and slum dwellers, the mission aligns with the vision of providing every eligible urban household with a sturdy dwelling by 2022, coinciding with India’s 75th Independence Day anniversary.
Beyond its housing mandate, PMAY-U serves as a catalyst for economic vitality, generating employment opportunities and promoting environmental sustainability through its emphasis on energy-efficient practices. CM Sarma concluded by affirming that PMAY-U embodies more than a mere housing scheme; it epitomizes India’s journey towards holistic development and inclusive prosperity.
