Hyderabad: PM Modi to inaugurate Ramanujacharya statue

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Hyderabad today to unveil the 216-foot-tall ‘Statue of Equality,’ which honours Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya, who lived in the 11th century.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the ‘Statue of Equality in Hyderabad to the country at around 5 pm.

The 216-foot-tall Statue of Equality honours Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya who championed equality in all aspects of life, including faith, caste, and creed in the 11th century.

The statue is built of ‘panchaloha,’ a five-metal alloy consisting of gold, silver, copper, brass, and zync, and is one of the world’s tallest metallic statues in the sitting posture. It is mounted on a 54-foot-high base building called ‘Bhadra Vedi,’ which has levels dedicated to a Vedic digital library and research centre, ancient Indian scriptures, a theatre, and an educational gallery featuring many of Sri Ramanujacharya’s works. Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami of Sri Ramanujacharya Ashram is the creator of the statue.

During the programme, a 3D projection detailing Sri Ramanujacharya’s life journey and teaching will also be shown. The Prime Minister will also pay a visit to the 108 Divya Desams (ornately carved temples) that encircle the Equality Statue.

Sri Ramanujacharya dedicated his life to the upliftment of people, believing that all individuals are equal regardless of nationality, gender, colour, caste, or creed. The inauguration of the Statue of Equality is part of Sri Ramanuja Sahasrabdi Samaroham, Sri Ramanujacharya’s ongoing 1000th birth anniversary festivities.

The 50th Anniversary Celebrations of ICRISAT will be kicked off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ICRISAT’s Climate Change Research Facility on Plant Protection and ICRISAT’s Rapid Generation Advancement Facility will also be inaugurated by the Prime Minister. These two facilities are devoted to Asia’s and Sub-Saharan Africa’s smallholder farmers. The Prime Minister will also present an ICRISAT logo created just for the event, as well as a commemorative stamp.

The Prime Minister will visit the Icrisat campus at Patancheru at 2.45 pm and visit Muchintal at 5 pm.

ICRISAT is an international organisation based in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa that performs agricultural research for development. It aids farmers by supplying improved crop varieties and hybrids, as well as assisting smallholder farmers in the drylands in combating climate change.
