Manipur: Aerial Bomb Recovered In Thoubal

Guwahati: An aerial bomb was recovered in a paddy field at the historic Khongjom in Thoubal district of Manipur on Thursday morning.

The bomb was recovered by troopers of Assam Rifles and Manipur police jointly.

A bomb squad was quickly called to the scene, and it successfully detonated the bomb at the nearby Langathel Langam hills.

The device was reportedly discovered by an excavator engaged in earthwork at the paddy field between the YMC Brickfield and Khongjom Loukon.

It is noteworthy that Khongjom is a historical location since the Battle of Khongjom, which took place in 1891, was the biggest battle of the Anglo-Manipur War.

It is located roughly about 33 kms from the capital city of Imphal.

Since that time, the princely state of Manipur has lost its independence from the British up until 1947. The battle of Khongjom is commemorated on April 23 by a holiday known as “Khongjom Day.”

Moreover, Manipur was a battleground between the British and the Japanese during the Second World War.
