Megahalaya: Four Arrested in Alleged Gang Rape Case at Chenga Benga Mela

Northeast Desk, 24th April: In a significant development, police have apprehended four individuals suspected of involvement in the alleged gang rape of a minor girl and the physical assault of three others during the Chenga Benga Mela at Gandhipara near Garobadha in South West Garo Hills on April 16.

Among the arrested individuals, one was intercepted from a night bus bound for Guwahati, hailing from Rajabala, West Garo Hills. Another suspect was apprehended from Teporpara, situated on the Assam-Meghalaya border. The remaining two were detained by Assam police from Hatsingimari, South Salmara. It’s noteworthy that all four suspects are residents of South Salmara, Assam.

Presently, two of the suspects are under police custody, while efforts are underway to produce the other two in court with a request for police custody. The investigation into the harrowing incident is currently underway, aiming to bring justice to the victims and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
