Meghalaya: Civil Aviation Minister Launches Seaplane Demo at Umiam Lake, Eyes Greater Air Connectivity for Northeast
Shillong — Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu arrived in Meghalaya today to initiate a groundbreaking demonstration of seaplane operations at Umiam Lake.
The two-day visit aims to showcase the viability of water-based air connectivity in the Northeast, with demonstration flights scheduled to commence at Ri Bhoi District. This pioneering initiative highlights a potential new approach to bridging transportation gaps in the region.
Alongside the seaplane launch, Kinjarapu will chair the 6th Helicopters & Small Aircraft Summit, organized in collaboration with the Meghalaya government, Pawan Hans Ltd., and FICCI. The summit, a significant aviation industry gathering, will focus on enhancing air mobility to remote areas, reinforcing the government’s commitment to integrating accessible and effective air travel solutions for the Northeast’s unique geography.
The visit will also see Kinjarapu participate in the North East Region Program, led by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). This program includes critical discussions aimed at bolstering regional development, with a focus on infrastructure, economic growth, and connectivity enhancements tailored to local needs.
Tomorrow, the minister’s agenda includes the 2nd North East Aviation Summit, expected to draw industry experts and stakeholders for dialogue on advancing aviation in the Northeast. He will also attend Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebrations at Shillong’s State Central Library, where initiatives for tribal welfare and development will be highlighted.
Kinjarapu’s visit underscores the government’s strategic focus on promoting sustainable growth, connectivity, and cultural recognition in the Northeast, marking a significant step forward in the region’s aviation and developmental landscape.
