Meghalaya Government Announces Police Medals for State Day Celebrations

Shillong: In a move to honor outstanding contributions to law enforcement and emergency response, the Meghalaya government has revealed the recipients of three prestigious medals, set to be awarded during the upcoming Meghalaya Day celebrations on January 21.

The recognition highlights the exceptional service of individuals across various sectors, reinforcing the state’s commitment to public safety and community welfare.

Fourteen officers have been selected for the Governor’s Police Medal for Outstanding Service, a testament to their dedication and performance in diverse roles. Among the notable recipients are Superintendent of Police Billygraham R. Marak and Additional Superintendent Priyanka W. Sangma, both serving in the West Garo Hills region. The honored officers represent a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including traffic management, battalion command, and specialized policing, underscoring their critical contributions to maintaining law and order in the state.

The Chief Minister’s Police Medal for Outstanding Service will be presented to twelve officers, recognizing their exemplary efforts in areas such as criminal investigation, checkpoint supervision, and battalion operations. Superintendent Vikash Kumar, IPS, from South West Garo Hills, leads the list of honorees, reflecting his significant role in enhancing the region’s security infrastructure and operational efficiency.

In addition to these accolades, four firefighters have been chosen for the Chief Minister’s Disaster Response Medal. This award highlights their bravery and commitment to emergency response, with Leading Firemen Deibormitre Lamare and Biswajit G. Sangma standing out for their exceptional service during critical incidents.

The awards were formally announced through a notification signed by R. Rapthap, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya. This recognition comes as part of the annual Meghalaya Day celebrations, which mark the state’s journey since attaining statehood and serve as a platform to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the community.

These honors reflect the government’s appreciation for those who go above and beyond in their duties, ensuring public safety and fostering a sense of security. The medals not only celebrate individual achievements but also inspire a broader commitment to excellence in service across Meghalaya.
