Meghalaya Govt Improves Grant-in-aid For 710 Preschools

Guwahati: The Meghalaya cabinet has given its approval for the grant-in-aid for 710 pre-primary schools to be increased.

For all Pre Primary School teachers, the grant-in-aid has increased from Rs 12,000 to Rs 18, 000.

Moreover, the Assembly will be presented with the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University Amendment Bill which would transform the institution into the first state university in Meghalaya.

A week after the Meghalayan MDA 2.0 administration was formed under the leadership of the NPP, some persistent problems affecting the education sector have started to come to light.

The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools Association (MSSASA) brought up the persistent problems of raising teachers’ pay, releasing grants on time and filling open teaching positions on March 15. The group also asked the state government to include more funding for the SSA in the budget for the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years.

“We would not wish for the same circumstance to arise, in which we will be required to take to the streets to demand the release of the salaries,” MSSASA president Aristotle C. Rymbai spoke to reporters after meeting Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, “The problem of delay or irregular payment of salaries of the SSA teachers is the need of the hour to address the need to increase the budget,” Rymbai added.
