Nagaland: Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Announces Indefinite Shutter Down Protest

Northeast Desk, 23rd April: In response to the ongoing harassment faced by the business community at the hands of Naga political groups (NPGs), the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has taken a bold stand by announcing an indefinite shutter down of all business establishments in Dimapur, effective from April 26.

The decision for the shutter down was reached to protest against the relentless issues plaguing the business community, including multiple taxations, intimidations, and summon letters issued by NPGs. The DCCI emphasized the urgent need for these grievances to be addressed and resolved.

Calling upon the state government and law enforcement agencies to intervene swiftly, the Chamber stressed the importance of safeguarding the interests of the business community. It urged authorities to take immediate measures to ensure the safety and security of businesses operating in Dimapur.

While acknowledging the inconvenience the shutter down may cause to the public, the DCCI appealed for understanding and cooperation in the pursuit of justice and welfare for all citizens. The Chamber emphasized that the protest is not directed against any particular group or faction but is solely aimed at addressing the issues of multiple taxations and extortion.

In a firm directive, the DCCI reminded the business community to refrain from entertaining any calls or summons from various NPGs without prior consultation with the Chamber. This measure is intended to prevent further exploitation and harassment of businesses.

Asserting the unity and resolve of the business community, the DCCI’s protest underscores the collective determination to confront and eradicate the systemic challenges faced by businesses in Dimapur.
