Guwahati: Manipur security officials arrested a leader of the underground rebel group PLA along with drug smugglers.
The two individual were arrested by Gillibam security guards in Manipur.
Two of his arrested had his 28.40 grams of powdered heroin seized, worth about 300,000 rupees.
The arrests and seizures came as seven rebel groups, including the banned PLA, UNLF, PREPAK and KCP, declared an 18-hour shutdown in Manipur that peaked at 6 pm on Thursday.
In a statement, Assam Rifles claimed that one of the two people arrested with drugs in Manipur’s Jiribam district was an active PLA squad.
Those arrested were then handed over, along with the seized drug to Manipur police for further investigation and trial, the statement added.
