Sri Lanka Crisis: Shoot at sight orders, as protests continue despite PM’s resignation
Guwahati: Protests against the country’s economic woes continue in Sri Lanka and it has seen unprecedented violence in the last two days. Mahinda Rajapaksa, who resigned as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka on Monday, has been accused of inciting unrest that has taken at least eight lives.
Mahinda Rajapaksa’s supporters attacked anti-government protesters demanding his removal over Sri Lanka’s greatest economic crisis, which has resulted in severe food, fuel, and medical shortages, as well as prolonged power outages.
On Monday, Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned from his position, but violence erupted in the island nation shortly after.
According to AFP, the Sri Lankan defence ministry has issued shoot-on-sight orders to quell disturbances.
