Street vending prohibited in Guwahati

Guwahati: Street vending has been prohibited in the areas of Guwahati by The Guwahati Police Commissioner.

The Guwahati Police Commissioner has made it illegal to sell goods on the street in the Bhangagarh and Dispur police stations.

The Commissioner of Police in a notification said that the regular commuters have been inconvenienced because the sidewalks are clogged with street vendors.

The Commissioner in an order stated, “It is necessary to take preventive measures to ensure free and smooth movement of public, smooth flow of traffic and normal functioning of business establishments nearby in the mentioned areas.”

The areas include Bhangagarh Flyover to Roopnagar Rotary and from Six Mile Flyover to Panjabari.

It has been prohibited to open and operate any type of business on the stated places, such as erecting stores selling perishable and nonperishable goods, tea booths, and so on.

The order shall come into force with immediate effect.
