UP Polls: Phase 6 voting begins today in 57 constituencies
Guwahati: The sixth phase of assembly elections in the state of Uttar Pradesh began in 57 constituencies at 7 AM on Thursday.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Samajwadi Party (SP)-Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) alliance, and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress are the main challengers in the state’s election.
There are 626 candidates in the fray today. Gorakhpur, Ballia, Kushinagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar and Deoria are among the districts with 57 Assembly seats.
Fate of political heavyweights including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Congress’ Ajay Kumar Lallu and Samajwadi Party’s Swami Prasad Maurya will be decided on Thursday.
The election for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly will take place in seven stages, with the final round taking place on March 7.
However, on March 10 the votes will be counted.
