US: Mississippi Shootout Leaves 6 Dead; Suspect Arrested

Guwahati: As many as six people were shot and killed in Tate County, Mississippi following a string of gunshots on Friday.

As per reports, one person had been arrested in relation to the incident.

Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance stated that all of the shootings took place in the Arkabutla area and he added that one of the incidents occurred inside the store on Arkabutla Road where a man was shot and killed.

Also, a woman died inside a residence on Arkabutla Dam Road. Her husband was injured during the incident, but it’s unclear if he was shot.

According to CNN quoting WMC, Tate County deputies apprehended the man without incident after spotting him inside a car on Arkabutla Dam Road. The identity of the suspect has not been revealed.

Deputies discovered four more dead victims after the arrest. In Arkabutla Dam Road, two were discovered outside and two were discovered inside a house.

Northwest Mississippi’s Tate County is located about 30 minutes south of Memphis, Tennessee.

The governor of Mississippi Tate Reeves tweeted that he had been briefed about the shootings and that someone had been arrested.

“The individual responsible has been taken into custody alive. At this time, we believe he acted alone. His motive is not yet known. I will ensure that the full resources of the state are available to law enforcement as we continue to investigate the situation. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) has been asked to assist in this investigation. Please pray for the victims of this tragic violence and their families at this time,” Reeves said in a tweet.

CNN is being helped with the inquiry, according to Martin Bailey with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations.
