Guwahati: A power distribution company officer in Uttar Pradesh was suspended after putting a picture of Osama Bin Laden, the murdered Al-Qaeda founder, in his office and referring to him as the “world’s best junior engineer.”
The officer in question is one Ravindra Prakash Gautam, sub-divisional officer (SDO) working with the Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (DVVNL).
The picture also has a note below that read “Respected Osama bin Laden, world’s best junior engineer.”
After a photo of Bin Laden with the statement became popular on social media, senior district officials took notice and suspended SDO. The photo was also taken down from the workplace.
“After an investigation into the event, the Managing Director of DVVNL has suspended SDO Ravindra Prakash Gautam,” said Farrukhabad District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh.
However, the suspended officer justified his behaviour,= claiming that anyone may be an idol.
“Osama was the world’s best junior engineer.” “The photo has been taken down, but I have multiple copies,” he explained.
I consider Osama bin Laden to be my ‘Guru,’ and if the photo is taken down, he says he would arrange a new one and hang it.
According to accounts, the SDO put Osama’s photo in the office approximately a week ago, and no one objected, despite the fact that clerks, operators, two junior engineers, and a dozen lineman visit there regularly.
“A committee has been formed to investigate the situation. “A report has been requested, and additional staff will be disciplined as well,” said Rakesh Verma, the company’s Chief Engineer.
