Assam: Four Family Members Killed, Two Injured as Car Falls Into Under-Construction Culvert in Tinsukia
In a tragic accident in the early hours of November 12, a car carrying six family members veered off the road and plunged into an under-construction culvert in Tinsukia, Assam. The accident resulted in the death of four family members, while two others sustained serious injuries and were transported to Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh for emergency treatment.
According to sources, the accident occurred around 4 a.m. on the bypass connecting Dihingia Gaon along the Tinsukia-Dibrugarh route. The family was traveling in a Swift Dzire from Dibrugarh to Tinsukia en route from Bihar to attend a wedding. Among the passengers was a 5-year-old child, with the other victims estimated to be between 40 and 45 years old. Authorities are still working to formally identify the victims.
Witnesses from Dihingia Gaon, who were among the first to respond, rushed to help the injured and expressed frustration over the incomplete culvert, which they believe contributed to the tragedy. “The hazardous road conditions and the unfinished state of the culvert have made this stretch of road extremely dangerous,” said one local resident, urging officials and contractors to expedite the construction.
The incident has intensified calls for improved road safety in the area, with locals demanding swift action to complete the bypass and prevent further accidents.
